The father of Greek tragedy and the greatest of tragic eupatrides, from the genus Kodrid. He was born and raised in Eleusis and had a father named Euforion. The site of the Eleusinian Mysteries contributed to the development of the poet's high, brave and pious morals, which is why he participates in all the pro-freedom struggles of the nation, in Marathon, Artemisium, Salamis and Plataea. His entire poem depicts the brave and proud attitude of the Marathon warrior. He is the representative par excellence of that pure and brave generation of Marathon fighters, in whose name the Athenians swore "by the Marathon fighters", says Demosthenes. Contrary to Pindar, who praised the athletes, the great tragedian praises the liberators of Greece.
Aeschylus, heroically fighting in Marathon "and heavily wounded, fled on a horse from battle". And his brother was Kynegeiros, who had amazed the ancient world with his superhuman heroism. Thus, the entire family of the poet was ablaze with patriotism and bravery. The poet is proud of these qualities, as shown by the epitaph, which he wrote: "alken d' eudokimon Marathonion alsos an eipoi / eta tyuchetises Medos espistamenos".
He wrote 70 to 90 tragedies and dramas. His first play was staged at 500, when he was twenty-five years old. From then until 468 he was the only hero of the theater. This year he was defeated by Sophocles, who was making his debut in the theatrical competition. Since then, sometimes one wins, sometimes the other. In the meantime, he was invited by the philosophe tyrant of Syracuse, Hiero, and went to Syracuse, where he wrote the tragedy "Aitnaia".
And in 456, when Aeschylus died, Euripides was presented for the first time in the theater of Gela (Sicily), to win 13 victories, half of his entire life. Aeschylus' greatest asset is his poetic genius, and his almost Dionysian enthusiasm. His works, which he wrote as if possessed by a divine rage, are more gifts of divine inspiration than works of art.
From his tragedies that have survived, and are known throughout the world, Aeschylus truly convinces that he is the greatest tragedian of the ancient world, the poet unparalleled in greatness, power and prophetic visions. With "Prometheus" he presented, for the first time, the painful human epic on Earth.
