Poet of the so-called new comedy. He was born in Syracuse in 361 BC and died about one hundred and one. Together with Menander, it constitutes the heyday of the period of this theatrical art. He wrote about a hundred comedies, of which only fragments have survived. The comedies of Roman Pavlos (Mercator, "Trinummus", and perhaps also "Mostellaria") are considered imitations of Philemon's plays "Merchants", "Thesauros" and "Fasma".
