Athenian politician, who played an important role during the Peloponnesian War. In 425/424 BC he took part in the campaign against Kythera, led by Nicias. He followed the policy of Nikias and signed with him the annual truce with the Lacedaemonians in 423 BC. He was killed together with Lachis near Mantineia in August 418 BC.
